Nový Jáchymov has about 750 inhabitants. The entire municipality lies within the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area, which is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The municipality has a primary school and a nursery, along with a school canteen and an after-school club.

Nový Jáchymov was founded in 1810 near the Fürstenberg ironworks. The ironworks' blast furnaces, Karel and Amálie, were among the largest in the monarchy. A cascade of three ponds lies on the Habrový stream near the village.
