Chrustenice has more than 1,000 residents and continues to grow through new housing development. The D5 motorway is around two kilometres from the village. Its proximity to a main transport route helps connect it with nearby towns and villages.

The Chrustenická šachta is a mining exhibition where visitors travel by mine train through the tunnels of a former iron ore mine. The mine operated from 1861 to 1965, had 84 levels and reached a depth of 426 metres. The village is also home to the Götz Villa, designed by architect Jan Kotěra in 1907–1908.
